By some amazing fluke, I’ve actually found the speech you were referring to: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/sep/20/fiction (“fiction” rather than “fiction1”)! Really rather beautiful. You say you wished you’d read more David Foster Wallace… I’m afraid that, not only had I never read anything by him but also, I’d never even heard of him until reading your blog!
I think I might have to find more of his stuff!
